Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

I'm all for security but having gone through this for the last month or so, it's just an annoyance.  I have 4 laptops which I use throughout the day on a daily basis. Today I go through the verification  process and then get a notification I need to restart for an update, I do that and then find I have another update, so have to go through it all again. Has BT tested this out fully to understand what we have to do. I have Norton security at their request and have to put up with this. It's really a PITA and wants sorting out, soon.

Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

@Doggo47  BT are not going to change this. Using Norton Security is also a choice, you don’t have to use it. ISP’s are very good at bundling in these extras because it makes them feel better that they’re helping to keep the customer security safe. If you want to use it, use it, if you just want to use Windows Defender or any other anti-virus or internet security, use that.

Again, moaning about 2FA here is pointless because it won’t go anywhere. Send a complaint to BT via their CEO if it’s causing that much of a problem but I doubt it will lead anywhere.

Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

I tried to change the 2FA number and could not find it anywhere. I then tried to change my details for contact and that just would not work. BT site sayx 2FA cannot be removed but on this forum some say it can. which is correct?

2FA does not show in any of my account settings and changing my details fails every time.

@yorkley  2FA, Happy to be corrected, but I believe 2FA is now mandatory.

Never have I read other than this forum such hostility to 2FA. Mind you, there’s probably a much older customer demographic with BT who have been customers for decades who rely solely on BT Mail and unlikely to ever switch ISP who are undoubtedly struggling with 2FA. Unfortunately for them, that’s the way the world is, businesses ultimately trying to protect their customers from themselves. The amount of folks who fall for scams is incredible.

It seems that the obvious solution to those that don’t want the hassle of using 2FA with BT, is to find another email provider. Of course that’s far too much effort for some...

First of all, thanks to whoever it was who just deleted my earlier reply post.

The point I made was that finding another provider means losing historic email addresses or having to pay extra to retain them in basic form.

I also made the point that BT 2FA was failing to send passcodes today, leading to error messages that too many had been re-sent so blocking access.

Besides, they are not re-sent, they send new ones. A batch may turn up together and the user has no idea which is the valid one.

Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

@DISRUPTED  It wasn’t me who deleted your last post by the way, it was I suspect what you typed in your last sentence, which was completely over the top to be honest.

Anyway, that aside, the point I’m making is that you’re complaining about this whole thing in the wrong place. I’m not sure how many times people who come here have to be informed, your post doesn’t go to BT, it is effectively, just ranting for ranting sakes. The best thing you can do, is complain directly to BT, to their CEO by email and BT’s Executive Complaints will pick it up and deal with it, or not, depending on the merit of the complaint.

Yes, we all get it, you have an opinion and you want everyone to know about it, but as I say, this is the wrong place to do it, effectively, you’re wasting your own time.

What's the point in BT hosting a community feedback forum if they pay no attention to it. They should 'get the message'. That's how other provider hosted forums work.

I have asked for certain matters to be sent to Executive Complaints via the BT Complaints channel. They said they would, but needed to close the complaint in order to do so. Needless to say I've heard nothing. Likely I was being fobbed off. That seems fairly standard practice within BT nowadays. Are they all 'working from home' perhaps?

What is BT's CEO's email address? Please do let me know.

P.S. I can assure you that BT are not "ultimately trying to protect their customers from themselves", I've had that conversation... I'll leave it to you to work it out.

Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

@DISRUPTED  The point of the forum is for community members to give advice or recommendations on how to solve various problems without the need for customers to phone BT. What the forum isn’t for, is for general ranting on how BT implements its service.

Yes, there are Moderators here who can occasionally assist with certain issues but they are not a beacon for every moan or complaint that customers might have with aspects of BT’s overall service. For that, you have to complain directly to BT. There really is no other way of explaining that. Still, people will read this and still refuse to accept what they’re told, so effectively I’m wasting my own time even responding.

I don’t know the CEO’s email address but I believe it can be found doing a simple Google search.

OK, I'll 'google'. Perhaps you'd 'google' too and let me know what you find...
