Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

Not withstanding that when BT make any changes that the changes should work correctly the BTMail system is owned and operated by BT and they clearly set out in their Terms and Conditions section 21, which you have agreed to when you started using the system, that they can make changes to the service at any time for various reasons which includes security changes.

I can assure you that those T&C were not in existance when I started using 'the system'. They would likely have been drafted much later. FWIW, they also suggest BT should give notice of changes. How does the furtive mandatory introduction of 2FA  without informing users align with that?

In any event using BTMail/MyBT or indeed any BT product is not compulsory and you are free to stop using it at any time or move to a new ISP.

I'm sure you know as well as I do that many consumers are, to a significant extent, locked in. BT certainly appear to, they appear to happily abuse that privilage.

What I can say is that moaning and ranting on this forum will not make any difference other than possibly making you feel better because you have let off steam. Perhaps as a "stakeholder" you should raise everything you have posted about at the next Stakeholder Meeting or write a complaint to the CEO.

What is the point of a BT hosted forum if they don't monitor the comment? The point of a forum is surely to exchange views and  to be heard.

Other than the time expended which is never repaid a C-Suite level complaint is probably due, but if the Company is doing it's job properly should one need everytime to complain to the CEO?

I, for one, would be happy so to do.

For email log-in it should be OPTIONAL, a user selection choice, a toggle, just as written on the respective BT web-page. What's difficult in that?

By default: ON, but by user choice, capable of being set: OFF (with a user liability acceptance clause).

Unfortunately when users have their email accounts hacked it has a lot of knock on effecst on others such as all the user's contacts details being harvested by the hacker and at the least spammed if not their accounts plagued with phishing emails which some may fall for.

There is also the problem that businesses that are used by the user can also be target by the hackers and the resultant costs that they incur as a result ie refunding money for goods that the hacker obtained etc. or bank accounts that the hackers manage to get into etc all because of the "inconvenience" of having to enter a pass code!

@DISRUPTED

I am now no longer going to respond to your moans and groans as you obviously are only looking for problems to moan about and no matter what was said or done other than remove 2FA from your accounts nothing will satisfy your moans.

I hope that BT do indeed remove 2FA for you and hopefully you never have your account hacked but if you do could you please post back and let us know.

One man's "moans" are another's man's 'practicalities'.  One should look to treat the cause not the symptoms.

Thank you. Well, so do I. I wouldn't much care if they were 'hacked' as I don't consider them as a secure medium in the first place. Otherwise, happy to do so. 🙂

As you are no doubt aware this is a BT residential customer to customer forum. Your post does not go to BT.

Lodge a complaint and take it up with BT.

BTW, I have, again. They fob off complaints.

Latest jarring absurdity: I can't help you. I need to close your complaint so that it can be raised at a higher level.

@DISRUPTED  I assume then that as a stakeholder, you feel valued and appreciated for your long standing loyalty and more than grateful for BT’s outstanding and exceptional customer service. I’m sure you’re already eagerly awaiting contract renewal with EE 😏

Sorry, I don't see the point of that reply. Is it supposed to be sarcasm?

Re: Is two-step authentication now mandatory? No option to switch it off.

@DISRUPTED  You’re clearly unfamiliar with how I often respond to others posts. Sarcasm as they say, is the lowest form of wit. And if you desire empathy, I’m not perhaps the best person to approach.

I get it you’re unhappy about the service you’ve thus far received from BT, but ultimately, it’s up to you to do something about your situation. The forum can only offer you advice, it clearly can’t fix everything for you.

As another forum member made clear about not engaging with you further relating to your various service issues, I too will take my leave and allow you to get on with it. I genuinely do however wish you well and I hope you get the problems sorted.
