Not Receiving Spam?

An unusual issue - if it is an issue!

I haven't received any spam emails into my Spam / Junk folder for a few days now. This is unusual, as there are normally several a day - which I periodically check. I am only concerned because I have been expecting an important email, it was suggested I check Spam, but  there's nothing there at all to check. It looks like it's all being removed before getting anywhere near my account. Most 'normal' emails (including an odd spam) are still coming through to my inbox.

Has there been a policy or setting change somewhere?

Spam detection algorithms change continuously.

Re: Not Receiving Spam?

My concern is the 'algorithm' may be overdoing it. Until a few days ago, the algorithm would filter the spam and put it in my spam/junk folder, giving me an opportunity to check. I have now had another day with no spam at all going into my spam/junk folder, and at least two expected emails not arriving. From where I sit, the algorithm appears to be overly aggressively blocking real and potential spam at source including potentially valid emails.

Re: Not Receiving Spam?

Hi @PeterFindlay

Thanks for coming to the community.

If you have examples of genuine emails being marked as spam, could you private message me the date and time the email was expected, and the from email address please?

Thanks 🙂

Leanne.

Re: Not Receiving Spam?

If you know the email address of the "expected" emails that have not been received, have you added the email addresses to your "Safe Sender" list?

To do that log onto your email account and click on your username at the right hand side then click on settings and then go to "Mail" at the right hand side then "Safe Senders". Add the email addresses to the list and click "Add" then "Save".

Re: Not Receiving Spam?

@gg30340

Under the current system where I am receiving no Spam, and therefore have no visibility of emails Btinternet have filtered as Spam, I would need anyone planning to send me an email to contact me via another means (obviously not email!) to let me know they intend to send me something so can can add them to a safe senders list in advance.

I prefer the old system from a week or so ago that allowed me to check for potentially valid emails in my Spam folder, and then add them to my safe sender list.

Re: Not Receiving Spam?

I am well aware that you can not add email addresses to the safe senders list if you do not know they senders email address or when an email is being sent.

I was referring to the emails that you stated " at least two expected emails not arriving"  hence my post "If you know the email address of the "expected" emails that have not been received, have you added the email addresses to your "Safe Sender" list?"

Re: Not Receiving Spam?

@PeterFindlay  it's not a question of 'old system' or 'new system', as stated previously the algorithms are continuously changing in an attempt to keep ahead of spammers. Unfortunately, the baby gets thrown out with the bathwater sometimes.

BT's spam filtering has been a bone of contention for many years, sadly I doubt it is likely to change any time soon.

Personally, I use a Gmail address for important correspondence as it is more reliable.
