Problem with BT email on my iphone

I have used Apple mail on my iPhone for a long while with no trouble. I am a BT Broadband customer.

A few days ago I started to get an error message that the phone could not get my emails. I left it initially to see if it would clear but it hasn’t. I can still access the emails on the Webmail with no problem and the emails are still coming into my iPad. There has not been a software update for the phone and I have not recently changed the password. I have tried deleting the App, powering off the phone and then reinstalling it. I have checked very carefully that the settings for the incoming and outgoing server are correct and that it is set to IMAP. It is now saying ‘cannot connect using SSL’ and I don’t know where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Problem with BT email on my iphone

Hi @Windingroad.

Thanks for coming to the community.

Can you check whether your iPhone has the latest iOS update available? You mentioned there hasn't been an update recently, but it's worth having a look under Settings > General > Software Update and completing the update if one is available.

You could also try switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data to see if the behaviour is the same on both connections. It would also be worth checking whether you have any VPN or security apps enabled.

@Windingroad

I know you have said you have carefully checked the settings for the servers. Are they and in particular the SSL encryption as per the following link
