Synchronisation Problem

This is the error message I get when synchronisation fails, as it does often. Is there anything I can do to fix the problem.

I suggest you edit out your email address from the forum before you get more spam than you know how to deal with. This is a public forum viewable worldwide

Re: Synchronisation Problem

Are you presently a BT Broadband customer or are you paying for your email through a BT Premium email account?

What device(s) does this happen on?

Does this happen when using BTMail webmail (on a web browser) and if so which browser or is it when using an email client or app and if so which one?

Re: Synchronisation Problem

I am a BT broadband customer. I use an Acer laptop and MS Outlook as my e-mail client, configured as IMAP. No problem when using webmail only when Outlook tries to synchronise with BT Mail to download my e-mails.

Re: Synchronisation Problem

There are frequently issues between Outlook and BTMail being reported on the forum. BT say its Outlook and Outlook say its BT.

I would suggest that you ensure your Outlook settings are as per the following link

https://www.bt.com/help/email/manage-email-account/manual-settings/what-are-the-settings-for-outgoin...

and unless you have a pressing need to use Outlook try a different email client such as Thunderbird to at least see if the problem is still there.  You can then decided to keep T'bird or go back to Outlook.

Re: Synchronisation Problem

Many thanks for the suggestion.

I have created a new profile as a POP3 account and with a bit of juggling have a .PST file copied from my .OST file.

All seems fine at the moment, see how I get on.

Re: Synchronisation Problem

Just in case you are not aware, a POP3 account will not synchronise with the BT servers.

It will download your Inbox but if you delete or move emails into folders this will not be synchronised with the BT servers or if you do that on webmail it will not be reflected on your email client.

If you want full synchronisation you would need to have your email client set up as an IMAP account.

Re: Synchronisation Problem

I am aware of the constraints of POP3 v IMAP, but it was with IMAP that I had the sync problems. I have been a user of POP3 ever since I started using e-mail decades ago so am quite comfortable with it.

Many thanks for your advice.
