scam or legit?

I have received this email from [email protected] just now to one of my Bt email accounts , I haven't clicked on the link

YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR EMAIL CLIENT SETTINGS
Hello,

From December 2026, we’re upgrading BT Email to use enhanced secure connections called TLS, or Transport Layer Security. This means your emails will be more private and better protected, giving you extra peace of mind.

What you need to do
If you use an email app or client, like Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird, you’ll need to update your settings so they use a secure TLS connection. This applies to sending and receiving messages, including checking your inbox or sending mail. Just tap Get started to find the steps for your specific email client.

Re: scam or legit?

I would appreciate any feedback from Apple mail users who have followed this BT instruction / link.

I have my emails stored in folders on my Mac.  I don't want them to disappear!

thanks for any feedback.

Re: scam or legit?

Just check that your Apple Mail app is using the settings as per this link. You will not lose anything just by changing the ports to the secure port if required.

Re: scam or legit?

I had no issues. Th only issues I had was on my iPhone, I didn't realise one of my accounts was POP and not IMAP and I was entering the wrong number

Re: scam or legit?

To be fair, you should have been using secure ports 993 and 465 since BT introduced their use many years ago.
