Suddenly I am being asked for a code that is sent via text to my mobile to access my BT email on the web which is fine for me but not much good to my husband who shares an email account with me how do I switch this off. I certainly did not turn this on and the same thing is happening on my ee account if I wish to check my bill.
It is a security change that BT have made and there are numerous threads regarding this if you search through the forum.
The short answer is that you can not turn Two Factor Authentication off.
As regards sharing your email account with your husband that of course is your choice but the 2FA PIN will only be sent to the account holders mobile number that is on record within their MyBT.
is there any way two mobiles can receive the same verification code. Also if we stick to using one device (a laptop) will we still have to verify account every time what a nightmare!
The PIN will only be sent to one mobile.
If you use an email client such as Thunderbird or Outlook on your laptop it will not require 2FA and you will not need to enter a PIN.
Your device will become a trusted device after an indeterminate time decided by BT which when this happens you will not need a PIN.
