BT Advanced Phone - New rechargeable Duracell batteries not working

Go to solution

Hi There,

I have a BT Advanced Phone - and replaced the old ones with new rechargeable Duracell batteries 750mAH, but phones are not powering on. However, I have tested the batteries in other devices and they work fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Kindest regards.

I don't know the phone & the manual isn't much help. But I'm increasingly seeing devices where both batteries are oriented in the same direction, rather than opposing each other. So at the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure that the polarity of the batteries matches the symbols in the compartment?

Was it also dead with the original batteries or just losing charge? If the latter you could try a set of regular AA batteries just as a quick test to see if it powers up. It's possible that one of the Duracells has a very low capacity that can't power the phone but can power a less demanding device.

I've just checked the batteries in mine and they're 800mA, perhaps 750mA batteries either don't have enough juice in them for the phone to start up or the phones battery monitor circuit sees the 50mA shortfall as a battery fault (??)

Hi Les,

You were correct, I put normal aaa Duracell batteries, and the phones power up fine. However, the original batteries that I took out from the phones (from new handsets) were 750mAH hence o ordered the same ones. The only difference was the brand. What do you suggest?

many thanks.

It's highly unlikely that a mere 50mA capacity would stop them powering up, especially if the originals were 750mA. I still suspect that at least one of them is duff.

Re: BT Advanced Phone - New rechargeable Duracell batteries not working

Hi All

I have been using 1100mah NimH batteries bought from Amazon and that seemed to fix the initial battery problems.  Been using two handsets with these batteries now of over a year with no problems.  THAT WAS UNTIL A FEW MINUTES AGO.

While on hold and using speaker phone after 15 Minutes of hold flat battery warning.

Mistake One:  Put the phone on the charger and it disconnected the call loosing my place int he Call for NHS 24.  Should have got the other handset and joined the call before doing that.

The other phone is working fine and on hold now for a 1 hour 45 Minutes.  So the phone I was using probably has a memory effect on the batteries.  It is the most used handset.  I will order new batteries for both phones.  In the mean time I have put the faulty bats into a separate charger that is currently Discharging the batteries and will then fully charge them,
