BT 'Cashless' Payphones now free to call UK Mobiles and UK landlines

Due to the continued absence of the Credit and Debit card service 'Creditcall' from BBG Global, BT has made the decision to make calls free of charge to UK landline and UK mobile numbers at its cashless Payphones.

The reason behind this is so that people can use them and is especially useful in emergencies which is what they are mainly used for these days anyway.

Cashless Payphones are mostly located in rural settings or where cash isn't used as much and was financially better to make them cashless. You will know which are cashless as they have no cashbox beneath the phones or will have a display saying 'Cash not accepted here'.

I have been told signage is going to be provided advertising this at kiosks.

I have tried the service and it is indeed now free.

Simply lift the handset and dial the UK landline or UK mobile number as you would calling a freephone 0800 number or a telephone number from your home phone, there is no time limit.

As the card service is not working, Payphones that accept cash will charge the normal BT Payphone rate for all chargeable calls. In addition the new BT Street Hubs still offer free calls to UK landlines and most to UK Mobile numbers.

This offer includes calls to 03 numbers but does not include calls to 070,07744,07755 or chargeable 076 paging numbers. There are free to call 076 paging numbers still in operation and work the same way as 0800 numbers.

For more information or to report Damage or a fault or a dirty kiosk call 0800661610.
