BT advanced - Registration failed.

Go to solution

I have a BT advanced unit and 5 connected cordless phones.  The base unit has been playing up, so I bought an identical one (with an extra phone).  I registered 4 of the phones with no problem, but 2 of the phones showed 'Registration failed'.  I used the new phone in place of one of the failing phones and now have 2 spare phones but neither will register for my last phone.

I am aware of REN problems, but they all worked with the old base unit.

I tried to de register one of the phones, using the old base unit, but that had no effect.  I have reset both phones, taken out the batteries for 5 minutes but still no luck.

Any ideas how I can register my last phone?

Hi @Yussie

Welcome to the community.

It sounds less like a faulty handset and more like a registration limit or pairing issue.
If the new base already has the maximum number of handsets registered, any extras will show 'Registration failed' until one is deregistered. It's also worth checking whether the two spare handsets are still linked to the old base and removing any stored base registrations before trying again.
It could be worth factory resetting the failing handset, placing it right next to the new base, then try registering it again. If registration issues persist, I recommend factory resetting the base station too.

You can find some steps on this registering BT cordless phones help page.

Many thanks - problem solved.  When I tried to de register the base unit, I saw that there were some unknown handsets registered.  I deleted these and my final phone was registered.

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
