I have a BT landline but because the copper cabling in my street is so poor the max BT broadband speed (FTTC) BT quote for me is 16Mb. I therefore have Virgin Media for my broadband. Unfortunately the FTTP rollout in my area stopped 300 yards away and the engineers have all departed so it looks unlikely we will get Openreach FTTP anytime soon. This means my street is stuck with Virgin for broadband. When the digital phone rollout arrives will I still be able to use BT for my "landline" phone via some sort of adaptor or digital phone? I am reluctant to move my "landline" to Virgin as I do no want to lose the phone number I have had for 45 years.
Hi @Fossil I moved my BT home telephone number of 40 years to a VOIP provider. So I can move broadband provider anytime without the risk of losing it. Just Google home telephone voip uk. It was very easy ,and they transferred my number without a hitch. They will guide you if this is new to you. I even kept my BT line while I tested it, you are given a temporary 05 number until you move the BT number which will trigger the BT cancellation.
You can't have BT Digital Voice without some form of BT broadband.
