I have VERY poor broadband provided by BT, how is this supposed to be an improvement when even a WA call is tricky? Without a better broadband service this just won't work, can this be paused until BT provide a better service?

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.
BT Digital Voice only needs 128Kbs to work, so unless your broadband is less than 500Kbs, you are not going to notice it.
As the PSTN network is closing at the end of 2025, IP based phone services are the only option.
