@chrisjp you are replying to the original 3year old post. The latest question is in regard to an Ethernet lead from the ONT to the hub.

@licquorice   I read that as a reply to gg30340 moving it to a separate thread.

To late now. I am not going to waste my time trying to untangle it.

Being that gg30340 no longer wishes to move my query to a separate thread I will reword my query so that it can be answered.

In one room there is a BT smarthub with  a phone socket.

In an adjacent room there is a landline phone.

A cable with a  BT plug is fitted into the smarthub, the other end of that cable passes through a wall and is fitted to a wall mounted BT phone socket.

The landline phone is then fitted into that BT wall mounted socket.

However there is no connection.

I'm assuming that the BT plug to RJ11 cable fitted to the landline phone is a crossover. Therefore should the BT plug to BT wall socket be a straight through or patch cable?

If so, then how are the four wires  [white, green, blue and pink/red] fitted to the BT wall mounted socket with six 'pins' usually used to connect  two coloured wires?

Straight through.  A second crossover just undoes the first, as it were.  But, as I said, it shouldn't make any difference on modern phones.  If the phone is dead, you would seem to have a disconnection somewhere.

Did you look at the website I suggested?  There are some fault finding tips on there.

If phone is near a mains socket, why not just pair a BT/EE DV adapter with the hub and put it into the mains socket near your phone and plug the phone's plug into that?

Rocket science it ain't. You have 4 wires, only 2 of which are required and are not polarity conscious. Just try the various permutations of 2 wires until you find the pair that works. There are only 6 permutations.
