Broadband package switch over to Digital Voice

Go to solution

Hello,

I have had notification from my current broadband provider 'sky' that my service is transferring to another provider.

My phone package is with BT and received a letter to say I am being switched over to Digital Voice on the 10th June.

It sounds like my broadband is being transferred over as well? Does this sound correct?

I have not yet received a BT smart hub, will this arrive before the switching date of 10th June?

Many thanks

Chris

when you move to DV you can no longer have none from one provider and broadband with another provider. From your post BT are moving you to DV 2hich will cancel your SKY broadband. I suggest you contact CS 03301234150 as soon as possible to sort it out.  You either keep  BT phone move TO DV but cancel  SKY broadband .  Another possibility is you move phone to SKY or you move broadband to BT

If you have two separate service on the same ‘line’ broadband from Sky and telephony from BT , then you have been paying way more than necessary for presumably many years …what’s more Sky removed the majority of it’s customers from this shared line arrangement (SMPF , shared metallic path facility) a decade or more ago , basically giving those customers an ultimatum, join Sky for both telephony and broadband or find a new broadband provider…presumably you were not given this ultimatum , perhaps at the time  in your location Sky couldn’t offer telephony .

Now , with the retirement of PSTN telephony, you can’t have SMPF anymore even if you want it to continue , and as BT telephony is the primary service on SMPF , your telephony  has to move from PSTN to something called PDPL (pre digital phone line )  you can’t have Sky broadband on PDPL , or for that matter broadband from anyone at all when on PDPL , it’s a phone only replacement for PSTN customers.

Presumably BT told Sky of your telephone service moving  to PDPL , that triggered the cessation of your Sky broadband (as its the secondary service on SMPF )  and they have inaccurately advised you of the service transferring to another provider, that’s only partially true and not a full explanation, BT can’t arbitrarily start supplying your broadband service.

Not sure why you think you will get a BT router if you haven’t asked BT to provide broadband , BT don’t  need to provide you with broadband for PDPL to work , asking BT for broadband is something you could have done anytime in the last decade, (or joined Sky for both services and dropped BT telephony )

If it’s PDPL you will be getting , you won’t have broadband and unless you join someone for both services , it’s at that point you will be removed from PDPL .

TBH , joining one company is something you should have done years ago and saved yourself a significant amount of ££ , as SMPF is in the order of twice as expensive as a single company providing both services, in the order of £60 combined (2x£30) a month , when £30 a month for both services from one company is a typical price …so the equivalent of £30 a month wasted for at least a decade, possibly much longer .
