We are sorted. I borrowed my daughters phone and lead and the system works fine. My son in law said is it the phone or the new lead purchased two weeks ago.

Guess what it is the new lead that is faulty and the BT3880 works fine with my daughters phone lead.

You couldn’t make it up.

Thanks for your help I now need to convince Curry’s to exchange the lead. Wish me luck.

Probably not a faulty cable, just the wrong one.

Well done that man.
I managed to remember where I had stored the empty box for the lead. On the back is the smallest message you will ever read which says

’If there is no dialling tone then use the Crossover adapter.’

I did wonder what the small length of cable was for and now I know. Adapter fitted and phone working.
