Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

Well, converted over to Digital Voice this week. They sent me a new BT HUB 2.

Was a little sceptical at first,  but it all  worked fine. (Wi-fi , Speed tests and CP)
I  plugged my DECT cordless base station into the new hub and tested that the phone worked.

Only today was I able to test Call Protect. Received the usual robot call "You credit card has been used what looks like suspicious active dah dah dah"
Used 1572 - worked fine.

Then logged into CP via BT website (My BT) and able to add new numbers for blocking. I can see that BT, at my cut over to DV, have copied all the existing blocked numbers to my new CP because the creation date for each number is the same.

I firmly believe, because  of the communities continuous reporting  of issues to BT have coaxed them into action to fix.

So, fingered cross, and Happy Easter to you all,

Michael

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

I did have an issue adding a new number to be blocked earlier this week, via the BT app on Android.  Resorted to using the web browser on the PC.  A few days later it's all good again.  Suddenly getting a lot of scam calls this week ( recorded message banking scams)

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

Hi Pete

Yes, I've been getting a few more scam calls in the last couple of weeks too. Call Protect on EE has been recording every number which is great but they are now invariably mobile numbers which sites like WhoCalledMe can't always identify individually. When the calls started up again I would occasionally call the number back on my mobile to try and check but invariably I heard 'You have dialled an incorrect number' or I got someone whose number has obviously been cloned so now I just assume if the number is not in my contacts and there is no message left it's probably a scam call and block it.

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

I get far more scam calls on my mobile than the BT landline. Probably about  2/3 a month on the landline compared to about 20 on mobile.

Agree with Swatty, If the call is important, the caller will leave a voice message. Scammers never do.
So I normally just block the caller using Call Protect.

The scammers are getting smart,  using cloned real numbers that do not show up in WhoCalledMe.

Cloning numbers is legal but I'm sure cloning a number that is not the main switchboard number, for the organisation calling you,  would be illegal.

I'm registered with TPS but to report a scammer is pointless task.  Most, if not all, scammers are outside UK.

1. The call that you are complaining about must be a live unsolicited direct marketing call in which you engaged in a live conversation with the caller, who tried to sell you/market their product or service

2. The organisation’s name and/or telephone number, and the date and time the call was received

3.
You must consent that some information (name, telephone number) will be supplied to the company you’re complaining about. This will enable that organisation to investigate the complaint effectively, identify you on its database and remove your number as appropriate

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

It must be very annoying getting so many scam calls on your mobile. I am happy to say that I get virtually none on mine.  I think that's because I'm not a prolific user or contributor to social media but may also be because my phone is a Google Pixel (a 7A) and the phone's settings enable you to identify and filter out many spam calls. It may be worth changing your phone if the calls are getting you down!

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

Hi swatty,

One reason I get so many scam calls is because my mobile number is the ONLY mobile number I've ever had since, I guess, the dinosaurs roamed the planet!.  Over the years I've had to give out my mobile number to countless businesses, online platforms, etc. and many platforms/businesses sell these contact details on the black market.

Doesn't bother me at all.  On my iPhone I use the setting "Silence Unknown  Callers". So I don't get disturbed as my phone doesn't ring. So scammers never get to speak to me. And they don't leave messages, so I'm cool with that.

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

My Spam calls have definitely reduced so far this year. I've only had 2 or 3 and these and other genuine calls have all appeared on the call protect app under last 20 calls received. As already mentioned, I too have also had spoofed numbers call me where the number shown (mobile) is a genuine number but has been hijacked by scammers. I called one back last week and it was a genuine guy in Scotland who was quite concerned his number was being used! Anyway great to see us all still on this thread !

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

Yes, we only get about 2/3 scam calls a month on the landline. As you say, they are now using genuine mobile numbers, from unsuspecting people, that don't show up on "who called me".

Its a pity BT can't offer a similar system as the iPhone does - "Silence unknown Callers"

I've just looked at my landline handset.  and it indicates if I've received any calls. (It beeps if I've received a voice message) There is one call received 14 April

The caller is shown as
14 Apr 18:57
Nuisance ?
<phone number>

Anyone know how this word & symbol  "Nuisance ?" got there.
Is this something BT did, because I just used "Who Called Me" and  it says
"The overall user rating for this number is Negative .
The number xxxxxxx has been looked up 773 times, leading to 27 comments that have helped form
a clearer picture of the caller's intent."

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

Hi Michael it's Michael aka Clarkatron, yes, more interesting info from.you there. Just to go back to a recent previous message of yours, I too have had same mobile number for about 12 years now.I made the mistake of giving out a few times to mail order companies which resulted in copious junk calls which went on for a couple years. I blocked every number but of course they have many numbers! Finally in the last year or so they have all but stopped. And I find my phone is really good at filtering the odd spam calls I do get. I go into a menu and I can see any it has blocked and these get reported as spam as well to a number that logs spam calls. I have an Android phone and use EE. Had another bogus call yesterday on the landline. So I've actually now had 3 so far this month. 1 a week. All the best!

Re: Call Protect - last call number not showing

Hi Michael
I have been seeing the 'Nuisance?' tag on some incoming calls since September when, along with getting Digital Voice, my BT phone and broadband package was switched to EE. I believe the feature is part of Call Protect - presumably these are numbers BT/EE have reason to believe are scam callers. I still double check them using WhoCalledMe but invariably I find they are dodgy and I can then block them on Call Protect. I am really pleased that finally after many months we have gone from Call Protect being pretty useless -often missing many calls entirely - to being really helpful in identifying scam calls and enabling us to block them.
