Change a contract a few months in

My elderly mum has a BT broadband and landline contract. The broadband is mainly for when I stay with her to help care for her, and when I arranged the package I believed the monthly cost would be £32.99. However, I've recently realised that her bill is actually coming to just under £50 each month because phone calls aren't included. She also pays an additional £3 per month for Pay As You Go calls, which seems a bit confusing given that she's still being charged separately for calls. In all honesty, I didn't pick up on this when I arranged the contract. The whole process felt quite complicated, especially with the move to Digital Voice, and trying to explain exactly what my mum needed wasn't straightforward. I intend to contact BT to discuss this and see whether there is a more suitable package available, but I was wondering whether anyone else has found themselves in a similar situation. Were BT helpful in reviewing the package, adding an inclusive call plan, or reducing the overall cost? I'd be grateful to hear about other people's experiences and any advice before I contact them. Thank you.

Re: Change a contract a few months in

The PAYG charge is for the provision of a telephone number with the ability to answer incoming calls , and to make outgoing calls ( free ones to 999 , 100 , 0800 numbers etc ) and other outgoing calls on a pay as you go basis , there is a point at which the Unlimited Minutes makes more sense than PAYG , at 30p a minute on PAYG , you only need to make 30 minutes of calls a month after that Unlimited Minutes is better value as it can be had around £12 .

You should be able to switch between PAYG and Unlimited Minutes yourself , doing it on line inside your ‘My BT’ account, but that may not offer the £12 price , much like PAYG can be had for £3 , which is a discount on the £5 list price , Unlimited Minutes can be had for £12 , that’s a discount on the £18 list price but you may need to call to get that price .

There is no reason why the move to DV made this more complicated, the price for calls and call plans is the same on DV as it was on the PSTN service.
