Changing my Phone handset

Hi, my very first post.....

Still on copper landlines here, but VoIP seems coming my way in the not too distant future. So planning ahead.

My current handset is connected via a trueCall device, which I am delighted with, and which I have an associated online account for. If I upgrade now to the BT Premium cordless handset, which I understand has trueCall built in, would I be able to dispense with my trueCall device, and still enjoy the trueCall features as controlled by my account as before?

Also, when VoIP arrives, it would just be a matter of connecting my upgraded handset into my OTP (isp permitting)?

Re: Changing my Phone handset

BT's version is based on Truecall, it isn't the full full featured product you have. There will be no connection to your existing account.

Having said that, the Truecall device should continue to work plugged into the router.

@Hector42  If it’s any help, I’m on DV with an albeit old BT8500 cordless system that’s got TrueCall built in like @Anonymous  alludes to. It’s plugged in to the hub and works absolutely fine. Just remember if you do get one to extend the number of rings before answer on the BT1571 service to make sure TrueCall does indeed answer rather than BT1571.

Re: Changing my Phone handset

@Anonymous Thanks for the info. Can you say just what features I would miss on my truecall setup if I swap to the BT handset? I am keen to minimise the number of add ons if at all possible.

Re: Changing my Phone handset

@Hector42

Not specifically as I've never had a standalone Truecall product. But as I said previously, your current online account will have no connection to the new handsets & there's typically no facility to import contacts. So you'll be starting from scratch, likely entering all contacts manually & managing everything from the handset. You'll have to look at the manual for the new phone for specifics.
