We have been switched across to Digital Voice.
I have been sent an adapter as our BT Internet Hub is in a different room to our phone (that’s in the hallway), however it appears that the actual phone connector plug needs to go into the top of the adapter, but I don’t have a power socket anywhere nearby.
What can I do?
Not much you can do, the adapter is simply a portable phone socket that needs power to operate.
If there is no power socket near to where you need the phone, you will either need to buy a BT DV handset or any third party cordless (DECT) phone and plug the base station either directly into the hub or the adapter.
There is another option, but that requires rewiring your master socket to allow the green socket on the hub to be connected with a double ended cord which will re-enable the extension socket you have your phone plugged into.
To be fair, I would suggest that the number of folks that have a corded phone situated where there is no power socket is extremely small.
Can you not simply have the phone somewhere else where there is a power socket.
I’ve managed to connect our landline phone to the adapter by moving the phone into the living room.
I have a dial tone, and can make outgoing calls using the phone.
However, whilst we can ring the landline using our mobiles, the phone doesn’t actually ring so you don’t know there is an incoming call.
The volume control is on ‘high’, and the phone worked fine when plugged into the original plug in the hall, why won’t the phone ring whilst in the new adapter for Digital Voice?

There is sometimes a problem with older phones that need the 'ring wire' to ring. This can be simply achieved by using an ADSL filter plugged into the adapter first then plug the phone into the filter.
try using the filter you used to use for the broadband. connect that to adapter and phone to filter that may work from previous posts
Some old telephones need connecting to the DV adapter via an ADSL filter ( your router is probably connected to the other socket using one ) to replicate the wiring a modern phone already has …so you need another ADSL filter for the DV adapter or another phone that’s not as ancient as the one you currently have.
