Cordless bt 4600 phone

The problem I am having with this phone is when one of my contacts rings the phone sometimes only rings about 3 to 5 times and I don't get to phone on time, then the caller gets a message saying sorry there is no one to take the call right now and the call ends without message facility kicking in. I removed 1571 this week and now the answerphone kicks in intermittently rather than not at all. Sometimes when someone calls it works ok, it rings the full 9 rings and goes to answerphone if I don't pick up and the caller can leave a message. We have gone through all the settings and can't find a reason for this.  We have sat and tested the phone and what seems to happen is it rings the 9 rings. Then the next attempted call after 10 mins rings off after a few rings and doesn't allow a message. Then the next attempted call rings through to answerphone. We have tried with different callers too. It's very frustrating as I miss a lot of calls as it rings off before I can answer and the caller is unable to even leave a message, then if they try to immediately ring back they can't get through for 2/3  mins the message again says sorry can't take call right now.  Any ideas how to fix this issue?? The phones are about a year old and we have had this issue from the outset.

Just to add we have bt call protect which is working ok. We are on a bt contract. We also had the predecessor to this phone which worked fine and the issue happended with that phone too and it started when we moved house and joined bt, we spoke to bt at length without resolving and decided it may have been the phones and replaced with the 4600. But the problem persists

Hi. I have edited...it's BT. We had no problem until we moved house from a different provider

@Eleanorh

Did you use the same phones on your last provider?

Its sounds more like an issue with your line, or the equipment in the exchange.

Are you on BT Digital voice, or does your phone plug into the normal wall socket?

Is BT Call Protect active on your line?

Re: Cordless bt 4600 phone

Hi. We had predecessor to this model in previous home and worked fine we were on virgin

When we moved we went over to bt and these issues started we spoke at length to bt and they thought it was the phones as they were quite old. So we upgraded to the 4600 but issues continued, but we have just put up with it.

The line was checked and I checked again this week no problem reported.

It is not digital. We plug in to a socket.

Bt call protect is active and working fine.

This week I deactivated 1571 and this made some improvement in that intermittent calls are going to answerphone now where they were not before

Re: Cordless bt 4600 phone

@Eleanorh

Yes, 1571 can cause a lot of issues if it intercepts a call before the BT4600, so its best left disabled.

Its unlikely to be the phones, I have the same phones with 1571 not active, and I can use the maximum number of rings.

The BT4600 intercepts all our calls and they never get as far as the caller announcing themselves (that is the mode we use), so we never hear the phone ring, as all our family  use mobiles. There are jus a few phone numbers stored in the phone, like doctor, hospital and certain organisations that require phone verifications.

See how it goes now that 1571 is disabled, it may just be certain callers that you are getting issues with.

Re: Cordless bt 4600 phone

The landline belongs to my elderly parents and I am trying to sort it out for them

Since disabling 1571 this happens with my mobile, have tried both parents mobiles same thing happens. And they report same with several friends.

I sat and rang their phone from my mobile in their home and it rang to answer phone. Then the next call 3 rings no message facility. It literally seemed to be alternate calls we tried several times and left long gaps between calls too. We tried it with their mobiles too and same happended.

It is frustrating especially if I ring them and it rings off after 3 to 6 rings I ten try to ring again it does the same, I have to wait at least 5 mins to try get through to them!

I am at a loss now what to try next
