Any ideas how long phone takes to fully charge and I assume the phones are pre loaded with the necessary battries

Such devices usually come with slow-passive-drain rechargeable batteries that leave the factory at around 80% charge. They would be expected to still have 50% + charge when first installed, even if that installation is months after they left the manufacturer. So they are usable pretty much out of the box, but because they are rarely fast charging, it could take a day for them to charge to 100%.
*If this has turned with less than 50% charge, then keep an eye on the battery charge level, as it's not unknown for even new batteries to be faulty!
Hello there and thanks for your speedy response, this handset had zero charge on installation and after 48 hours still seems to have zero charge, so it seems to me there is a fault in the battery or cabling to it with power cord plugged in I can make and receive calls, but after said 48 hours removal of power supply means no phone. I thank you for your assistance.
The user manual states "Please make
sure you keep it plugged in and
charging for 24 hours when
you first set up the phone.
As it’s a backup phone, you
should always keep it plugged
in to ensure it’s fully charged
for when you might need it."
It uses a 750 mAh Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery pack which should last 3 years - Ref: https://www.bt.com/help/landline/digital-voice-phones/hybrid-phone
If it's plugged into the power socket correctly and after 24 hours is still not charging you are best to contact customer service so they can provide replacement battery pack.
Thank you for your reply. I have been having ongoing issues with this phone since Wednesday of last week and spent many hours talking to Bt by phone and live chat. On Saturday they agreed to send out an engineer and a new phone to cover all eventualities, I cancelled the engineers call when I managed to get the phone working but the new phone order is still active, the post office are delivering it on Wednesday. I think it will be quicker to install new phone on arrival.
Finally i can say with some degree of certainty that this problem has now been resolved. Many thanks to those who advised me, and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi
How did you get it working in the end? I have tried two of the FW500 devices and both had no charge at all on delivery and did not charge at all after more then 48 hours plugged in. BTW I have no joy talking to tech help on this.
A new phone fixed the problem, first one supplied was faulty
The first device they supplied had no charge on delivery and none after three days. When the second one arrived it had residual charge in it so took no time at all to reach full charge. Sorry can't be more help. Tech dept were of little help and treated me like an idiot.
The battery case on mine says only to be changed by an engineer. Yet it states a new battery would be sent. By then it'll be discontinued surely. ? I've just received my second phone which doesn't charge. Old landline which has been around for an eternity worked fine, and I never had to power it up. A little disappointed sorry.
