External BT telephone cable holder noisy

Go to solution

Hi, we have a cable that comes from a telegraph pole to the fascia on the house before running down the wall and into the living room.  When it's windy, the holder for the cable shakes and makes a bit of a racket - enough to wake you up during the night, so it either needs tightening up or replacing (it looks like overkill for whatever it's meant to be doing - see attached).

Who has responsibility for this?  Is it something we need to fix or is it BT (they supply our phone) or Openreach?  I had a live chat with BT who opened a case with Openreach but the form they've sent me suggests that it's something they'll charge for, in which case I'll probably sort it myself.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Gregor

@gspowart77

It would be Openreach who would fix this, but unless its causing a fault, or is presenting a health and safety issue, they are no going to be interested in fixing it, without raising a charge.

It is a very old bracket which is no longer used.

It sounds like it may be loose and could fall on somebody.

Try reporting it https://www.openreach.com/help-and-support/damage-health-and-safety

@Keith_Beddoe Thanks very much for this.  If I wanted to replace it myself or get a friendly telephone engineer to do it, do you think Openreach would care?

As long as you don't damage the cable in the process, they won't know.

You could try the link I posted first, especially if the bracket is loose. The screws are most likely to have rusted up. Tell them its about to fall down, I would have thought they would be keen to look at it, they cannot afford not to.

Ok, that sounds like a good approach.  It's above the front door so seems like a reasonable request.

Thanks for your help!
