Incoming calls breaking up

Go to solution

During February 2025,our existing BT Broadband/landline contract was nearing its end and we were persuaded that we needed faster/bigger/better. In due course the new system consisted of BT Halo 3 with “Complete wi-fi” (1950's solid house) using a Smart Hub 2 and a digital voice adapter to enable continued use of our “monitored” burglar alarm was set up. Into the Smart Hub 2, I plugged an existing Panasonic KX-TGD620E three outlet wireless phone and I plugged the alarm phone line into the digital voice adapter. It all worked just fine.

Now, however, when we receive an incoming call which we pick up using one of the Panasonic phones (one master and two others) the caller can be heard “breaking up”. After 4-5 minutes the call has totally broken up. Our callers complain of the same symptom/result. This happens whether the caller is using a mobile or a landline phone to call us. The problem occurs whether we are near the hub or nearer a “disc”.

No-one is downloading/streaming or whatever when this is happening.  A few Raspberry Pis may be talking gently to each other in the background but nothing to overuse the hub

Any ideas?

Your phone works in the same way it did previously, DV isn’t anything to do with WiFi , your phones are using DECT on PSTN and still are using DECT is, the complete WiFi discs etc are irrelevant, as is  the hub WiFi .
You first  need to establish is this problem the DV service /hub or your own handsets …the easiest way to do this is with a replacement standard corded phone plugged directly into the hub , if this issue continues with this different phone it’s the hub or the DV service itself, if the issue disappears then it’s your own DECT phones …., as a first step you may want to reset/restart the hub until you can buy/borrow a replacement phone to try .

An anacronym minefield, but I think I can guess my way through to needing to go out and buy a new phone in order to proceed.

The hub will have been restarted a few times since we have been having this issue. For example, while setting up a Pi reverse proxy. (Not running during the latest tests)

I will find a corded phone handset and get back with the results.

Thanks .
