I have a BT4600 phone and I cannot access incoming calls from switchboards, all I get on the screen is 'incoming call' and when I answer the call I get the engaged tone. When I check for the number tocallbackI see the message 'no number'. This only appears to be calls made through a switchboard and not from private numbers.Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem might be, please?

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.
Does BT provide your phone service?
No, I get mine from Sky, but I think the problem may be with the phone and not the actual landline.
Its unlikely to be the phone, as it cannot discriminate between normal calls and calls from a switchboard.
It more likely there is an issue with Sky not providing the caller identity (CLI) information from calls originating from switchboards, especially if you are getting "no number" from their callback service.
The fact that the call is dropped would also indicate a signalling issue, especially if you are using the Sky VOIP service and not the normal copper phone line connection.
I would suggest that you post on the Sky User Forum to see if anyone has a similar issue.
