My social club has a BT 8600 phone which has an integral answerphone. Is there a way, perhaps by a PIN, to prevent anyone who might be in its vicinity from being able to play and possibly delete messages? A PIN can be set up for remote access but can one be set up for the instrument itself?

Hi @bratman91
If you set up a PIN for your answerphone, it will ask you to enter it to listen to messages, even when you dial 1571 from the BT 8600 device itself. It also allows you to access it from another phone.
Could you give it a test and let us know if it works please?
Chris
Thank you for such a quick response. I have set a Pin for what the manual calls Call Control and system Settings but this is on a handset. Pressing the “Play” button on the base doesn’t ask for any Pin and there doesn’t seem to be any option to set one. As far as I can see, a Pin is required only for Remote Access to the answerphone.
You're right and I see what you mean, @bratman91
I'd overlooked that there is a play button on the base station. Other than turning the voicemail service off completely, I can't see any way to stop those messages from being played from the controls on the base station.

Thanks Chris. I think that the only solution is to invest in a Rottweiler which is trained to allow only authorised members to use the answerphone from the base station.
That's a great idea, @bratman91 😂
