We recently had full fibre installed including Digital Voice (complete with DV adaptor for our existing phone - a BT Studio 1500). In and out calls and dial tone are fine when set plugged into DV adaptor.....but there is no ring on incoming calls, and as a result I have missed several calls. The original copper phone wires have not yet been removed and plugging the phone back into that system restores the ring function, though the quality of the call is not as good as via the SuperHub2. Can I get my ring back with DV or is it a lost cause?
Try using a filter like you used in your phone socket for broadband
Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.
This is a known issue which is easily resolved.
Some phones need an additional "bell" wire to ring, i.e. three wires.
The missing third wire can be emulated by plugging a microfilter into the socket of the hub, and then plugging the phone into the "phone" socket on the microfilter.
The microfilter has an internal capacitor which extends a third wire from the existing two wire connection.
Thanks for this. I've now tried using the ADSL filter from the copper broadband/telephone system, which I had fortunately retained when the new fibre was installed. Unfortunately, while the in and out calls and dial tone work fine (as indeed they do without using the filter) the ring is still absent! Is this the microfilter referred to in Keith Beddoes reply, do you know?
Yes. From another recent post not all filters work so do you have any others you can try
If you are still getting ringing on the old copper line, then it would appear that the DV changeover is not yet fully completed, which is possibly why the phone does not ring.
