You must do. If you have been migrated to DV then you old master socket presumably won't give you a dial tone if you plug one of your original phones into it. And your SH2 Home Hub Manager will show a white/greyed out window with the phone symbol on it and say 'not configured'. If otherwise and you have no dial tone at the master socket and an active window in the Hub manager then your DV is active.
I haven't got a bt hub, and i use Virgin for tv and telephone.

Then you are posting on the wrong forum.
This is the BT Retail Customer Forum for BT phone and Broadband Customers.

Virgin use their own phone network which has nothing to do with BT Retail.
The only support for BT Branded Retail phones, is via the product helpdesk. The number is shown in the user manual for the phone.
...so the number of rings is not adjusted 'in the phone' but 'on the network'?
Thanks
Precisely, I would imagine in the case of a DV phone but I bow to people with much more experience than myself.
Its the network that determines the number of rings before it goes to voicemail.
Thank you all for your patience and help.
I'll try virgin.
