POTS to DV success. But where's the "calls left with no message" list in 1571?

Go to solution

A friend of mine  has no internet, broadband or whatever. And no Smart phone. Just a Big Button telephone plugged into a standard BT Residential Line.

Imagine their horror when  BT mail shotted them with notice of moving to Digital Voice.

They'd heard from people around that an engineer would need to come round and do stuff and have to have a hub and such like.

But No. No visit necessary.

They were assured by BT it would all be done elsewhere.

And apart from needing to dial the area code for local calls they shouldn't notice any difference to the service.

And guess what, it all happened brilliantly at the time they said it would.
Have to say I was very impressed.

So thought I'd post this so that should anyone else have a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and be concerned about the switchover to DV then, based on my friends experience it would seem there's no need to be concerned and all looks to be straightforward.

Oh, come to think of it  there's something they did mention... Now they are on DV there's is a slight change to the 1571 service. There's no longer an option to list the calls that didn't leave a message. Is that right? Can it be requested or is that option no longer supported at all?

@gg30340  No sorry, it  doesn't really answer my question. It would seem the "analogue" 1571 service has been superseded by the DV equivalent 1571 'Voicemail' service. And there's no mention of using the service to find out who may have called without leaving a message.

For those people with simple POTS phones with no displays  - and I'm sure there's loads out there - It would be far more helpful if someone in BT could simply state what the changes are for someone using the existing Analogue BT 1571 Call Answering Service when moving to DV.

Clearly if they need to buy a new phone (hopefully not cordless) - or Caller Display device (do they still exist?) - to see the numbers then so be it.. But why no info in the 'Moving to DV' literature.. I wonder.

Not sure of the value of that these days, it will just be a list of scammers. Surely any genuine callers would leave a message or call again.

1471 still gives the last number called.

As far as I am aware you can not get a list of calls that did not use 1571.

Again, as far as I am aware 1471 can give you the last callers number.

Be aware that if you use the automated call back there will be a charge.

@gg30340 @licquorice  Good points both. Thanks. Think I'll suggest getting a corded phone with True Call. Think it's  a BT Décor 2600. Hopefully it wont be a step too far technology wise! And it'll stop the nuisance calls too.
