Hopefully you are not in receipt of the no broadband discount on your BT landline only service, and you should be paying around £32 if it’s on a PAYG basis, you won’t qualify for the reduced price as you have broadband from another provider …..
your telephone only line will be converted to a PDPL , a Pre Digital Phone Line , the work is done entirely within the exchange , disconnecting you from the PSTN exchange and connecting you onto a transitional phone service, it’s not Digital Voice but can be considered similar , although it’s not as fully featured as DV , nothing changes in your home, same sockets , same telephone instrument ( so no main power outage issues unless you have a mains powered phone ).
if you currently can use short codes to call local numbers you need to dial the full national number ( so using the STD code even on local calls ) but many areas had to do that on PSTN anyway .
