Panasonic KX-TG220e and FTTP line

Go to solution

I am wondering if someone can help. I am messaging on behalf of my Mum.

She has had ongoing issues ever since she had FTTP installed. This was carried out as there was an issue to the copper line to her property.

She loves her landline, she will not be without it. I have tried and tried to get her to move to a mobile phone, she has one and it is mostly switched off!

She has a Panasonic KX-TG220E handset, this thing worked great when working off a copper line, she could see the number calling her, it would take answer phone messages for her the works - no need to pay BT for any additional services, the phone did it.

Since FTTP has come along it is as much use as a old dial up phone. It has lost it's functionality in that it no longer has it's answerphone function, or displays who is calling etc. Worse still sometimes when I call her it rings and as soon as she answers it hangs up, other times it doesn't (this it appears to happen with others calling - so it is not just my number/phone).

Change is all well and good, but when she had something that was working well, she now has something that doesn't, she can't see who is calling her and no one can leave a answer phone message for her. So a total reduction in functionality.

Is this the norm? Are there options to fix this?

  • Do we need to check the existing configuration is set up correctly or is this a waste of time as you will only get this functionality back by upgrading the phone or signing up to BTs add on's?
  • Can we get the answerphone to work again or is the only option using a paid for BT provision
  • Can we get the phone to display the number that is calling again

We just want the functionality back that she had before...surely not to much to ask!

Getting rid of the landline and just using the mobile would address all of the above, but as I said that is not an option. I do feel sorry and concerned that there is little or no support for the older generation to help with all of this.

See link about BT Digital Voice and its calling features, most of which are free.

It may however mean that your mum's phone can not support these features so it may require her buying a new phone

The BT Essential Digital Phone is on Amazon for about £30

Caller ID was probably disabled by BT when she moved to DV, you can re- enable it in MyBT.

1571 was probably also enabled at the same time. Set 1571 to maximum number of rings and her answerphone to fewer so that it cuts in first.

I would echo the points Licquorice has made.

I myself have been running a ten year old Panasonic KX-TGA6624EB quad set on Digital Voice (DV) for two years now, admittedly on FTTC (Part Fibre) rather than FTTP (Full Fibre), and it has worked fine.  FTTP should make no difference as DV is DV however delivered.  I would look at her settings in MyBT, as suggested.
