Phone filter

Go to solution

Does anybody know if I have to fit a filter in the line when I now  have  fibre fitted?.

I am using my old BT phones, one with a DV Adapter.

Re: Phone filter

No filters required for FTTP

Some phones need the filter in the DV adapter to make old phone ring

"Some phones need the filter in the DV adapter to make old phone ring"
Unfortunately the DV adapters do not have the needed capacitor in them that makes certain old phones ring. When I was migrated to DV, I used 2 DV adapters to near-replicate my two old phone extensions. One old phone rang OK just plugged direct into the DV adapter, but the other would not, until I plugged it in via one of the filters that I had previously used to separate my broadband signal from my old analogue phone signal.
So yes, the filters that are apparently obsolete, once you go over to DV, ARE sometimes needed still.

I assume though that filters are still required with FTTC or VDSL or are they?

Re: Phone filter

The "filter" was actually on the voice-side of the system, so if you are on DV it should no longer be needed.  Of course, there are all the provisos above.  Including that you may need one as a converter for RJ11 to BT 431 plug.
