Hi,
I would like to port out a landline number from BT digital voice service to a VOIP provider and keep the FTTP broadband service going. I tried this over the last few days but I got an email from BT saying “sorry you’re leaving” and that both the digital voice and broadband service were being cancelled 😞 Had to cancel the number port which will hopefully keep things working.
Seeing as you can have FTTP broadband without digital voice, is there any reason why both services have been cancelled with the number porting request? Is there any way to flag the account so that only DV is cancelled and FTTP keeps working? If I phoned up customer services would anyone understand?
Thanks for any help…
Welcome to the wacky world of BT, still in the nineteenth century with their systems.
Although you can order broadband without telephony, you can't cease telephony without ceasing broadband!!!
It’s the sort of thing the regulator should take a look at as it’s definitely not in the interest of the customer for the process to work like that 😩
If I transfer broadband to another supplier without a phone service (so release the DV number) what are the chances of doing a number port after that - isn’t there supposed to be a 30 day period to claim the number? Or is that another lottery…
you either have a broadband only or broadband and phone contract with BT now. if you want to port your phone to a VOIP provider that will result in the cancellation of your broadband and phone contract. as more existing customer want to use their own equipment and not SH2 but keep phone number then only solution is to port number to separate VOIP provider. The sooner BT realise this and make it possible the better.
so only way is to port number first and they hope to persuade BT not to charge termination penalty and start a new broadband only contract
