Re: Power cut!

The phone itself does not necessarily require a power supply.  A ordinary phone plugged into the back of the hub will work just fine.

What does need powering is the hub (and the ONT, if you have one), but as said many times before, there are battery backup solutions for that and even portable generators, which people that live in really remote locations often already have.  Not to mention mobile phones and that the vast majority of people do have a signal.  (What perhaps does need more thought is how to support the people that don't have a signal).

The old system is obsolete and dropping to bits.  Do you really want to wait until it fails massively and at national scale?

And it's not just BT.  This is an issue across the entire telecoms industry.

Re: Power cut!

A standard corded phone ( so no mains required) works with DV  just by plugging it  directly into to the router.

As already stated , If you want to use a mains powered phone you clearly are not concerned about power outages as your mains powered phone would not work in a power cut even before conversion to Digital Voice ,  so your point is nonsensical.

If there are insufficient power sockets where you want your mains powered phone  , that’s no one’s problem than yours , buy a regular corded phone and use that , or use a mains extension lead to create more power outlets.

Considering the months that have elapsed with this  post , why resurrect it just to make the same already debunked point ?

@iniltous

To pick up on your last point, this is what happens when a thread has been marked as solved and then isn’t automatically closed off. It just allows a continued pointless debate. It’s asking for a continued whinge fest so unless the thread is locked, it’s open to abuse.

Re: Power cut!

Oh I love a good whinge-fest.

@Koala456   It only needs one socket.

The load created by the ONT and hub is low, so a multi-way extension is fine.  I have 9m of 1.0mm flex and a plug with a 5A fuse running out to the hall and a three way extension.  It powers an ONT, a Smart Hub2, and a Draytek router.  Combined load 0.5A.

I could even reduce this to a 3A fuse if I wanted.  The only reason for the 1mm flex instead of the more standard 0.75mm is the distance involved and the fact that I might want to run a small UPS off it one day.
