Replace or upgrade in house cable

Go to solution

Hi everyone

I have a in-house phone line that runs from the outside junction box to my NTE5, (there are two more junction boxs that it runs through due passing under the window and a wall) I'm wondering if I can just get a sold line, that I can replace or and upgrated, as I want to re run it differently, what is this called please

Thanks for the advice

@Elm0

Who provides your phone service?

Wiring before the NTE belongs to Openreach, so they would need to make any changes.

BT Retail  do not own the lines, they belong to Openreach.

Who do you pay your line rental to?

You must get a bill from somebody, is it just a single monthly bill from Utility Warehouse which covers your phone and broadband connection?

Yes it is a monthly bill with everything on it,

I just want to know if I can change the in-house cable as it's old

No, you are not allowed to change the external cable.

You need to contact Utility Warehouse and get them to contact Openreach and ask for an external re-arrangement of your line. There would be a charge for this, possibly £130.

This is a BT Retail customer forum so there is nothing anyone here can do to help.

If you want more advice, then try posting on Utility Warehouse`s user forum, if they have one.

The section from outside to your NTE you cannot change as that belongs to Openreach.

Any internal wiring from your NTE to internal phone extensions, are your responsibility and you can do what you wish with it.

The test socket on the NTE is the demarcation point between the external and internal networks.
