Surely more than three handsets are allowed with BT Smart Hub 2?
I have just bought two additional phones, but can't connect them
I have the following working setup: Smart Hub 2 / Gigaset easy H phone / HD VOICE phone - Handset 3 / HD VOICE phone - Handset 4
I wish to add: two BT HD VOICE phones, so for these I've tried:
Menu>Settings>Registration>Deregister ... "No link to the hub"
Menu>Settings>Registration>Register handset ... "Press the WPS button for two secs" ... did so... "Registration failed, Max Handsets Registered"
What do I do next?

I believe the limit is 5 - from your description it looks like the HUB is treating your 2 handsets as number 3 and 4 which means your additional ones would be 5 and 6. Likely you have had replacement handsets which are no longer is use. I would factory reset your HUB to kick those off and you should get on better
Just to add, if you have any analogue phones connected via digital adapters, each adapter counts as one of the five digital connections, and in addition you can have another analogue phone in the green socket on the back of the smart hub 2 (maybe more than one in the green socket with extension wiring, but I've not tried that).
You can have more than 5 phones (plus the analogue socket) if you have a separate DECT cordless base station. I had 6 DECT cordless phones connected to the previous analogue phone socket via a DECT base station. I can't pair all 6 with the smart hub 2 (yep, I tried and discovered the limit of 5), so I kept the cordless base station and plugged that into the green socket on the smart hub 2 (which treates all the cordless on the DECT base station as a single attached phone).
