Terminating a redundant BT phone extension

How do I terminate a BT telephone extension ? I did chop the wire but had to reinstate as that took out the main phone line? tks

if you go to your master socket and disconnect cable to terminals 2&5 that should stop extension sockets working assuming you are a BT phone or broadband customer

Many thanks for the prompt reply "Distinguished Sage" : ), I found the wires mentioned (see photo) however having already screwed up one attempt to isolate the extension wire which must loop back to the Master socket (which I did not appreciate), I'm loath to repeat the same mistake hence I will await electricians advice. assuming master wired correctly the the 2 wires visible - white and green - are currently connected to terminals 2&5.  if disconnected that should stop your extension sockets working
