Upgrade to Digital Voice, Multi Call not available?

I do not have BT broadband or a BT hub. I recently received a leaflet saying my landline will be upgraded. I had assumed this was a Digital Voice upgrade and I would be provided with a BT hub and a free Digital Home Phone.

However, the upgrade will be done at the exchange only and I will need no extra equipment at home.

In addition, I will, at no extra cost, receive extra services such as Voicemail, Call Diversion etc.

With this method of upgrade am I right in thinking that I will not be able to use Multi Call the ability for two people to make separate outgoing calls at the same time?

Thanks,

Russell

@RussellH

Who currently provides your services?

Apologies, I assume you just have a BT landline.

Re: Upgrade to Digital Voice, Multi Call not available?

If you will get , as a consequence of migration to a PDPL (pre digital phone line) some ‘star services’ (as they were once called)  ,for free ( ones you would have paid for on the current PSTN )  like call divert etc , why would you assume you won’t keep a star service you already have and use , the ability to make more than 1 call simultaneously  ?, seems an odd assumption, surely the assumption would be that it remains available, after all its potentially revenue earning .

I don’t know for sure , I don’t have a PDPL , but it’s most likely you will continue to have multi call or whatever it’s called , in the unlikely event you don’t keep this facility , removing something that was ‘free’ and giving you other previously paid for things should not be cause for complaint anyway  …the obvious thing to do is when you get moved to PDPL , give it a try .

Re: Upgrade to Digital Voice, Multi Call not available?

@iniltous - He cannot 'continue' to have multi-call as multi-call is only available on Digital Voice, not PSTN which he's still on.

@RussellH - I believe that multi-call is only enabled if you have BT's Digital Voice handsets (or possibly the BT analogue phone adaptor, if DV is delivered internally via a BT broadband hub rather than PDPL from the telephone exchange).

"Multi Call is a new feature for Digital Voice customers. If you have more than one Digital Home Phone connected to your Hub, two people can make separate outgoing calls at the same time. Or you can be on the phone and another incoming call can still get through and ring any of your other Digital Home Phones."

I'm on PDPL with extensions and analogue phones still working as before. I can still only make/receive one call at a time.

Re: Upgrade to Digital Voice, Multi Call not available?

I assumed the OP couldn’t possibly be complaining that a feature they already did not  have , could  be a cause for complaint because it wouldn’t be available on a PDPL either  , so assumed they were complaining about the ability to make 2 calls and switch between them or conference them together ( so a three party call ) …if they want to make two independent outgoing calls from separate handsets and don’t have DV but a PDPL , then they are no worse off than now on a PSTN line,

My apologies for not realising just how entitled the OP was , if the OP truly wants the  multi call feature, they obviously can buy BT broadband and add BT Digital Voice , that way benefiting from ‘multi call’ , if they continue not to have it , in the same way they don’t have it now , what exactly is the problem ?
