Using an ATA box with BT digital voice

Go to solution

Will BT digital voice work with an ATA box Cisco 190 series so that I can keep my existing landline phones around my house when I have to switch to digital voice?

Highly unlikely, as Digital Voice (DV) is a proprietary version of VoIP.

They will send you a Smart Hub 2 (SH2) router and you can plug your phones into a phone socket on the back of that.  If you connect your extensions to the SH2 then they should continue to work.  I have an old Panasonic cordless set plugged in and it’s worked fine for two years now.  Only very, (very), old phones may have a problem because of the absence of a bell wire

Hi @kate34   Why not take the opportunity to move to a VOIP provider, so you can use your ATA box and go for broadband only. How are you using it with the old master socket? If your ATA box has an analogue input, simply connect that to the SH2.

No, DV only works with the SH2.

If you're talking about analogue phones connected to extension wiring, Google "voice reinjection".

The BT smart Hub2 has a built in ATA, presented as a standard BT431 type socket at the rear.
