As long as you have a Smarthub 2 with the DV telphone connection socket, there is no requirment for any BT Openreach person to visit your house tro get DV set up. This can all be done remotely.

Badly trained BT agents do apparently claim that there is such a need on occasions - it really is time BT improved the training of their agents.

Do you have FTTP availability ? , if you are in a FTTP area but still on FTTC , BT often take the opportunity to build in a migration to FTTP as well as the change to DV , in those cases the appointment isn’t for DV but for FTTP ….obviously if you already have FTTP or FTTP isn’t available in your area it can’t be that , but it seems some account holders are flagged as needing assistance to migrate to DV , perhaps you have been flagged as ‘vulnerable’ and needing assistance to get into DV

DV is proprietary to BT, so if you move you will not get DV.  You may get your new ISP’s own equivalent, (which may or may not involve a new number).

Note, not all ISP’s are offering a phone service today.

I booked my move to DV online and the BT system and I booked a date for activation and the next page was to book an engineer and I could not continue unless I did. There was no way to not book.

I see no problems with setting it up myself.

So it will be "hello, thankyou and goodbye"

I had a second email giving the order number which I entered on the indicated webpage. You then select a date but, unfortunately, it then goes to a second page to book an engineer and you cannot go any further unless you book one.

Although I had set everything up an engineer came and we had a pleasant chat.
