Hi,
Hoping someone can offer some advice.
I have BT Infinity 900 and I just purchased the ASUS DSL-AC88U to replace my SH 2.
I’ve connect the router directly to the BT modem but when I attempt the run the quick set up it just times out and I cannot connect to the internet.
The DSL light is not light up on the front of the ASUS and I cannot get it to light up. Could this be the cause of the issue?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Thanks
Hi,
I recently upgraded to BT Infinity 900 and currently trying to swap my Smart Hub 2 for the Asus DSL-AC88U.
I’ve removed the SH and have the Asus WAN port connected directly to the BT modem. I’m running into issues whilst trying to complete the Quick Set up on the Asus, it just keeps timing out and I cannot connect to the internet.
Has anyone used a similar set up that could perhaps give me some advice on where I am going wrong?
Thanks
From the comments I take it you have a FULL FIBRE connection so all you should need to do is connect between the OR ONT, and the router via its WAN port.
Setup the connection using PPPoE and the only thing you should need to enter is the user/pass along with confirming the authentication protocol is AUTO or CHAP. You may need to select this as an EXTERNAL modem or perhaps CABLE type connection as the router will not handle the actual modem connection management just the local LAN routing.

Poor choice of modem/router really.
Ideally a router only is the best choice so the RT-AC88U rather than the DSL-AC88U or any of the other newer Asus RT devices.
Will the DSL version make a difference to the the overall performance I receive?
If it will I’ll return it and go with a router only version as you suggest

Doubt it but it does have eight ethernet ports instead of the DSL's four.
But with a 900mb connection you may be better off with a more recent AX WiFi 6 router.
Thanks for the advice.
I’ve arranged to return the DSL and got the RT-AX82U coming later on tonight.
That’s what I get for jumping in too quickly without the proper research!
