So I've recently purchased a new router and I'm having a little bother.
I've searched and tried the steps on this forum PPPoE and the login credentials ain't working and I've noticed everyone seems to have a ONT box and I only have a ADSL filter (so assuming that's my problem)
The RT-AX58Uv2 works fine when connected to the SH2 in DHCP.
Will the ADSL do the same job as the ONT? and if so do I need a different cable?
That device is just a router, if you only have ADSL you need either a separate modem to use with it or get a combined modem/router.
With FTTP, the ONT is a modem.
Asus RT xxxx models are routers, DSL xxxx are modem/routers
Thought that was the case is there anyway to put the hub into modem mode only? (I've looked about and that doesn't seem to be possible)
So following the guide putting my Asus into PPPoE and putting in the credentials drops the connection and will not provide the internet; any solutions to this?
Depends on what you are trying to achieve.
You have 4 options.
1. Get an Huawei HG 612 modem from eBay to use with your Asus
2. Exchange your router for a modem/router.
3. Use the Asus as a wireless access point by connecting it to the BT Hub LAN port to LAN port
4. Use the Asus as second router in a different subnet to the BT Hub by connecting LAN port to WAN port.
For option 3, give the Asus an IP address outside of the DHCP range of the hub and turn off DHCP.
For option 4, configure the Asus WAN port as DHCP rather than PPPoE, if it doesn't automatically configure the Gateway address, set it to 192.168.1.254.
Bear in mind with option 4 you will be double natting.

To clarify I'll be taking the feed from my Prefilter into the HG612 which will then feed into my router
That will work fine.
Just remember that you won't be able to have Digital Voice with that setup. If you don't use a landline it won't be a problem.
