Another third party router question.

Go to solution

How do I access the modem, eg to check it is in bridge mode?. I have a mikrotik router connected to the Huaweii 4 port modem. I am not using the homehub.

I have tried 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254.

Are you a BT  FTTP customer and is it the ONT you are referring to as the ‘Huawei 4 port modem’  ?, if it is , then there is no customer GUI you can look at , the ONT provides the authentication and is the optical transceiver…it doesn’t do any routing ‘per se’ .

I thought Mikrotik router webfig access was by using 192.162.88.1 or through WinBox. Probably wrong though.

MikroTik does do all that. I wanted to check what the BT box was doing if anything.

What the BT ONT does is filter your data stream from that of anyone else connected to the same physical optical fibre, and output the data stream via Ethernet.  Everything you need to see should be visible in the connection stats available on your router.  There are no user settings (there may not even be any support accessible settings on an ONT) there don't need to be.  It's a device that should either work or not.  If it fails, the best solution, security-wise, is probably to replace it!

A very different proposition to a conventional modem, regards not only settings, but data security!
