BT Hub6: Changes made to settings are no longer being saved.

Go to solution

Hi,

I have a number of Raspberry Pis and Arduinos, for all of which, in the past, I have set static IPs, where necessary, on the router. Similarly  port forwarding rules have been set for servers and proxies.  The network IP of a new pi has been changing so often that I determined to set the IP as static.  I did  so and saved the changes.  The purple flag was displayed to say that the changes were being saved but then changed back to the flag stating that the changes needed to be saved with a "warning" triangle to one side of it.  I have tried the process a number of times without being able to save the chaanges. There is no expalnation as to why this is occurring.

Previous posts have suggested that a "factory reset" may be needed.  I really don't need the prospect of having to risk that the reset will not solve the issue and I will be left without the other Pis not having their static IPs and there being no port forwarding to the servers and proxies.

Is the issue a fault with the hub whereby I can get the hub replaced by BT?

Are there any other practical suggestions to getaround the problem?

In previous years, it has been a simple thing to set the static IP in the Pi itself but with developments and "improvements" this is now not so simple.

Being pedantic, you can't set 'static'  IP addresses on a router. It is address reservation using DHCP to allocate the same address each time to a device.

Not sure why you are having difficulty setting a static address on the Pi. I have set static addresses without problem recently.

It's the case that sometimes in order to get a static address set on a device or a manual address set on a router (which as mentioned the BT router doesn't do), you may need to power both devices down.  Then restart the router, wait until it's fully booted and then restart the device (an rPi in this case).

* @licquorice might be able to give you more info on restricting the DHCP range, so that your static addresses fall outside the DHCP range.

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Thanks for your help. The powering down of both devices worked and the "reserved" network IP has been saved.

The question has been SOLVED.
