Folks
On setting the router up i notice UPNP is switched on, I have no clue what this does !!
Will it affect my connected devices if I turn it off?? Cameras, bulbs, Alexa etc!!
@Jasonuk1975 For most home users, you should keep Universal Plug and Play disabled on your router because it creates a security risk by letting local devices open network ports without your approval.
I personally never have UPnP enabled and I use my own router. I don't even have WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) enabled on my router.
I have over 30 WiFi devices connected simultaneously and not having UPnP enabled doesn't affect anything at all. That includes light bulbs, security cameras, washing machine, dishwasher, the works.
UpNP has been switched on by default on all BT hubs. Switching it off will have no effect unless you are a gamer or expect unsolicited incoming connections to your devices. Unless required, it is always more secure to disable UpNP.
