BT TV box Pro, issues working with a 3rd Party Router.

Good morning,

BLUF: Is there a solution to get the BT TV Box working with a 3rd Party Router?

I have recently upgraded to the BT TV Box Pro.

I use a 3rd Party Router (BT Smart Hub 2 just isn't up to my standards for configuring etc - I do a lot of gaming). I have BT's 900mb package.

I had an issue whilst setting up the box, that TV channels and my subscriptions were not working on the TV box. Connectivity was fine, Netflix and other apps worked with no issues. I restarted my ONT, router, and TV box as per previous post suggestions and still not avail. 

After a lengthy call with BT support, and reverting back to the BT Smart Hub 2 to run tests. BT's solution was that the BT TV Box Pro does not work with a 3rd Party Router for my TV Package and I would have to use the BT Smart Hub 2.

Surely there is a configuration to allow my account/subscription through my 3rd Party router?

Has anyone else had issues like this? Had a solution or workaround to be able to use both the TV Box Pro and a 3rd Party router?

I can confirm you can get the BT TV Box Pro working with a 3rd Party Router. Thank you for you assistance Licquorice.

I want to say that I know the direct solution, however I think I got lucky. The post you highlighted, pointed me in the right direction of IPTV (my first time using it).

After some digging I found a Asus Support page which referenced setting IPTV up on ASUS routers. I honestly changed one setting in an IPTV setting section to:

• Use DHCP routes: RFC3442 & Microsoft  - instead of just Microsoft which it was originally on.

I have no idea what RFC3442 is... Sorry.

Restarted my BT TV Box Pro and boom, worked with both LAN and WIFI.

Hope this helps anyone else in the future.

Glad you got it working and thanks for posting the solution.

RFCs (request for comment) are the specifications for how the various technologies involved on networking are implemented. RFC 3442 is a DHCP specification
