Can I Change the SSID on a Wifi Disc if used as Access Point

Got full fibre recently.  Already have cat 5 running downstairs as the wifi signal dies because the amount of steelwork in the structure.  Am replacing with cat 6 over the weekend.

I know I can use the wifi disc as an access point, by plugging it in to the cat 6, but can I have a different SSID?  I can see that you can give the disc a name (in the My BT app) but does that become the SSID?

I have an autistic son and we have named our network as one of his favourite cartoon characters (Merlin the Magical Puppy) and the existing downstairs access point is DangerMouse \ Penfold (2.4 and 5ghz) and the extender out in his media room is Scooby \ Shaggy.

If I can't use the same names I'll have to upgrade the existing TP Link access point and extender

Re: Can I Change the SSID on a Wifi Disc if used as Access Point

The Complete Wi-Fi discs have no SSID of their own as they cannot be used independently of the main hub; their sole purpose is to extend the range of the Wi-Fi coming from the hub.

In the BT app, you can set names for each individual disc but this is purely so that you can easily identify which disc is which if you have multiple - in your case, you know where each of these cartoon characters is located around your home. But that's about as much customisation as is possible for these devices.

Third-party extenders with their own access points are really the only way you would be able to set up different SSIDs.

@TonyGreer

To be pedantic, you can't use the disc as an access point as its a mesh node of the SH2. The whole point of a mesh is that you only have a single SSID, which devices should roam seamlessly between. So your existing APs become redundant & wouldn't read replacing, except for maybe an additional disc.

If you want to keep some familiarity, you could rename the main SSID to one of the characters.
