Hi, I have this old BT box with wires coming in through a hole just below my window. I want to know can I remove the box and wires, and also the external wires outside? Or should BT send someone?
The wires run from an external circular black box on the house wall.
Looks like other houses have wires going into it. The wire runs from there, through my window (outside the wires have become exposed), in through the wall to the old BT box.
I opened the old box in this pic..
The wires then come out of the BT box and go behind my skirting. Can I just cut them out or are they live? Looks very old inside the box.
Or how do I contact BT?
Thanks

Welcome to this user forum for BT Residential phone and broadband customers.
The external wiring belongs to Openreach, so you cannot remove it. You can ask Openreach to re-locate it, if its in the way, but you would be charged for it.
Any wiring within your house, that is not being used, you can remove.
Thanks for your quick reply. Can I remove the wire that goes into my window outside my house? I would not remove the black circular box on the outside wall that the wire runs into.
If not then I will call BT.
Thanks
Mark
Presumably you don't have a broadband/phone service currently as those wires will be providing your service if you do.
No, the external wiring is the property of Openreach.

They are responsible, right up to the master socket.
Do not call BT, as its nothing to do with them.
Why do you want it removed, do you not have an Internet connection?
This photo is the wall outside. I have an open reach box, and also wires coming in through the wall by this new box. The wire I want to remove is the one going through the windows that are to be decorated. The old wire has become exposed and goes to the very old BT box inside.
The new open reach box and my phone line go to these two boxes internally..
So it's this old BT box that I want to remove and the wire coming in through the window.
Does that help?
Thanks for your help.
Ah ok, you have full fibre. You can just remove the wires.
Thank you, but to clarify, I can remove the outside wire as well that runs to the circular black box or do I have to call openreach?
Thanks for your help!
Strictly speaking, you need to call Openreach, but if you don't tell them I won't.
Just be careful you don't disturb any other wires in circular distribution point.
Okay that makes sense. Thank you for your help.
