Cat 8 support -Home Hub 2

Go to solution

Just wondering, does the Home Hub 2 support Cat 8 cables?

Cant seem to find any post about it.

In general applications there wont be much difference in performance for short distance "residential", but for what I'm looking for it will be great 🙂

The Smart Hub 2 will support whatever Cat cable you put in, whether it is Cat5, Cat6 or Cat8.

However, Cat8 is really overkill for residential unless you are running a home data centre!

Most people just stick with Cat5, I use Cat6a and it's good enough for me.

I do not subscribe, so please do not always expect a reply.

For anything you are plugging into the HH2 there should be no advantage over Cat 5e,  Sure it will future-proof things, but even from that perspective there would be little advantage going for anything more than Cat 6a, unless there is zero price differential.  And yes the router should be able to use Cat 8 without issue.
*My 2.5Gbps switch will happily talk to devices at 2.5Gbps over short (1m) Cat 5e cables.

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Replace “much” with “any” and you’ll be correct .
