Certain apps and games stop working after a certain time

Before I start I shall mention my issue is not due to parental controls and my devices are not set on a time limit however for some reason every night after 9pm certain apps and online games just won’t work however the odd few do still work like YouTube ect, I don’t understand what the issue is I could watch YouTube fine but if I try load TikTok or a online game the connection fails to load anything even my safari browser stops loading websites however YouTube and other apps will work like nothings wrong, yes I’ve tried resetting my router and yes I’ve tried differant devices it seems to be a problem across my entire network

Re: Certain apps and games stop working after a certain time

Hey there @Itsreece077, welcome to the BT Community Forums!

When you mention that your entire Safari browser is not responding, is this every website, or just certain ones?

Also have you set up any WiFi controls in the past, and is it the Smart Hub 2 that you're using?

Re: Certain apps and games stop working after a certain time

I believe it’s the smart hub 2 we got it last year so it’s newish, after a certain time majority of apps, games and websites stop working apart from the odd few that still work like I mentioned YouTube, there’s no controls or locks set up apart from on the child devices that are set to pause at a certain time I turned this feature off and still get the same results so I know it’s not that, just find it strange how some things work and others don’t and like I said it can’t be the pause feature as everything would stop working not just a select few things and it happens on every device even the ones without any special permissions, the router is basically set up the same as when they came to install it even have the same results after a complete reset almost feels like it’s port blocking certain things for no reason and may I add it’s at the exact same time every single night 9.20pm

Factory reset the home hub, that should sort it out. A normal restart will not help.

Use the reset button.

I’ve done this like 5 times now still does it, it’s become that irritating I’ve had to use a vpn just to access things till it starts working again witch usually isn’t till around 7am

Possibly a routing capacity issue on the BT network to those routes, during peak time?

BT have multiple dedicated links to Google, which is why YouTube is not affected.

Have you checked BT Network based Parental controls, perhaps there is a homework time set?

I don’t understand it at all it baffles me how it happens at exactly 9.20pm and turns back on at exactly 7am without fail and blocks half the things I use but allows the rest to work

That does sound like the network based controls, which is why a VPN bypasses them.

Login to MyBT and check them.

Ive tried with all the controls set as on or off and still have the issue I’ll just stick with the vpn for now it’s not too annoying only takes 2 seconds to turn it on it’s a valid fix for now
