Connecting SH2 to my RT-AX58U with Digital Voice

Have just transferred from Sky to the 300mbit service with BT.  Was hoping not to have to use the Asus but the range with SH2 is not much better than the Sky Router.  I first factory reset the Asus and installed the latest Merlin Firmware, I plugged the Asus to the SH2 (with wireless turned off) with an Ethernet and then ran the setup tool and hey presto its up and working.  However the signal range is not proving great upstairs.  With the Sky + Asus router I would get 150M throughout, now with BT + Asus I'm getting some blackspots upstairs where I'm getting 40m.  I would have thought the signal strength would have been the same as with Sky.  Just thinking whether I should make any config changes to the router?  Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Is the Asus using the same channels as it was when connected to the Sky router? Try different channels.

You may need to fine tune the WiFi channels that the ASUS is now using after the reset. Download a WiFi analyser to see what channels are already in use & manually set the ASUS to the least congested. 2.4Gz is best on the primary channels of 1,6 or 11.

Although from another thread it would be worth connecting a PC to the SM2 by ethernet to test that you're getting the full 300Mb out f it.

Hi, I changed the channels for 2.4 and 5ghz.  No improvement in speed, getting approx 180mbit standing above the router.  Plugged laptop into the SH2 router and got 300mbit.  Then plugged laptop into the Asus and got 300 as well.  So looks like a config issue.  All I did on the SH2 was disable the wireless and on the Asus was run the setup.  Any further thoughts greatly appreciated.

What firmware was the ASUS running previously, native or an earlier version of Merlin? Either way I'd try rolling back as that's the only other thing that's changed.

But the fact you're seeing full speed at the ASUS via ethernet shows the issue must be with it. Probably best pursued with their support or Merlin's., depending where you end up.

It was running a previous version of Merlin.  Will see if I can find that, otherwise will install the Asus Firmware.  With thanks

Did you actually disable the SH2 wifi or just turn the wifi off? If the latter then BT Wifi is still being transmitted which might affect things.

I'm wondering if the software update or the setup tool have changed some of settings, have you checked wireless mode and channel bandwidth?
